Photo: Dawn in North Oxfordshire

I took this from the second floor of my house at dawn this morning. It was a really beautiful start to the day, here in the wilds of North Oxfordshire! Posted by Hello

Welcome back! All is well - the warm weather has returned to the mid-west.

Great photo, Janet!

BTW, I was wondering if you had ever read "Lark Rise to Candleford" by Flora Thompson? It's about her childhood in a North Oxfordshire hamlet (the Lark Rise of the title is actually Juniper Hill, which may be quite close to where you live) early last century.

Thank you for this blog, which I very much enjoy reading.

Aimz, thanks for coming by to visit!

Bronx Boy -- you stay warm there in the Midwest! Thanks for the welcome home, too.

Howard, nice to know that I have regular readers! I think that Juniper Hill is nearby but is actually just across the border in Northamptonshire. Thanks for the book suggestion, though...it's not one I've read.

Ah, there is indeed a Juniper Hill in Northants, and another in Bucks - and a couple more elsewhere besides! But Flora's is certainly in Oxfordshire - near Cottisford. http://tinyurl.com/djbtx
shows you where it is on an OS map (it's too small to appear on any other!)

There's a bit about Flora and "Lark Rise" at

The book is still in print, I think, a classic of country life writing. You should be able to borrow a copy from the Oxford City Library.
