"London Town" - Wings, 1978

At LONG last, here's a new Lord Celery posting!

I frequently travel into London to run training classes. And I just came back into the city during the day today, as I'm teaching Wednesday through Friday for a company based in Canary Wharf. The closest I could get a hotel room, though, was east of Canary Wharf in the area of the ExCeL Exhibition Centre (note the British spelling), at Royal Victoria Dock.

I got here early so that I could make a dry run from the hotel to the Docklands Light Railway station, to make sure I don't get lost in the morning. I just don't know this part of London at all. And as it was still light (although very rainy), I took a few snapshots for Lord Celery's readers. I thought you might enjoy seeing some of the sights south of the Thames!

As always, you can click on any of the images for a larger version.

The white building, in the left center, is where my hotel is located.

Here's the ExCeL centre. It was quiet there today...I guess there are no major conventions in town at the moment.

I walked over to the waterside and saw quite a view -- the Millennium Dome (left center) and the high-rise office buildings of Canary Wharf (right center!) It's too bad that it was such a rainy day, but the view was still beautiful.

Meanwhile, here's the tiny bit of "view" from my hotel room!

Hope you've enjoyed this mini-tour!

Janet

I've lived in London twice in my life, both for two month stints, and looking at these pics make me want to go back sooooo much. The summer before my eldest daughter was born I went for a quick visit, because I knew, both for practical and monetary reasons I would not be able to return for a long, long time (I was planning on getting pregnant that year.)
*sigh* Take a tube ride for me, will ya?
